Emerge cycling team was left shell shocked a couple of days ago when Avery Nijholt announced he wanted to leave and test his skills at the highest level. Management agreed to allow him to speak to other teams providing it was a good deal for all parties. After long negotiations (but easy) with a few teams it is now official that he will be signing for Greenride (Portuguese Team) in a deal which moves exciting young Englishman Newlon to the british team, and a large amount of cash.
It has been decided that all this money will go into strenghtening the riding squad with big moves expected for climbers who will provide a new look to the Emerge setup. Because of this it has also been announced that the current sprint train will also be allowed to find themselves new teams.
Blue Bolt said "Avery has been a terrific servant to this team. We have known his potential and drive for a while now and wish him the best of luck with his new team, where we hope he can get the number 1 rider spot in the English rankings and continue captaining England for a long time." Also speaking of Greenride manager Raimundas he said "It was a pleasure to do business with such a great manger, kind, polite and always willing to help.... we would love to do future deals with managers like this".
Nijholt also commented saying "Im excited about going to Portugal and riding in Division 1 for Greenride. They have great riders there already with Pires and Balsemao, and I want to be a part of this growing team." On leaving Emerge he said "I owe Emerge alot, they spotted me as a amateur and nurtured my talent. Without them I wouldnt be where I am today. I would also like to thank all the riders and trainers who have helped me achieve all my results there. I am truly greatful, and Emerge cycling team will always have a special place in my heart. I wish them the best in the coming years, and hope to one day return, whether it be towards the end of my riding career or in a coaching position"
